Apartment Project

The Apartment Project was first founded by the video artist Selda Asal in Istanbul in 1999 as one of the first independent art spaces in Turkey. The Apartment Project has operated as a registered art association and project space in Berlin-Neukölln since 2012.

From the very beginning, the Apartment Project has supported artistic collaborations that challenge the borders the world of art and the world of the everyday. This is reflected in the residency program, the workshop expansion as well as in the collaboration of the collective.

The accompanying exhibition space serves as a platform for solo and group exhibitions, workshops, interdisciplinary community projects, performances, discussions and meetings of Turkish and international artists, especially from countries that neighbor Turkey. In this context, the Apartment Project has invited, amongst others, artists from the contemporary art and culture sector to take part in mobile workshops in the South Caucasus and in the Balkan countries.

The Apartment Project primarily focuses on interdisciplinarity and experimentality, art in political contexts and art and cultural education.
