The closing of public spaces has also resulted in the closure of safe spaces in which artistic and physical freedom can be negotiated in direct encounters, as they can, for example, in clubs or theaters. What happens when safe spaces are closed or they visibly give way to a (new) publicity? Where are meetings of discrimination-free and queer communities taking place at the moment? How is this experience changed, which usually takes place safely in spaces these communities have opened and founded themselves? Who is involved?
In this conversation, Lewamm Ghebremariam, representing Clubcommission Berlin, and artist Maria Moschus of the Mantis Performance Kollektiv (Berlin/Leipzig) talk with dramaturg and curator Felizitas Stilleke (Berlin) about opening safe spaces in the pandemic.
